Bed & Breaksfast (chambre d'hôtes):

A "chambre d'hôtes" is generaly located at the owner's house: "maison d'hôtes".

You can book it nightly, no minimum lengh of stay. The price is per night and should always include breakfast, whereas breakfast is charged separately in a hotel.

It can include diner if "table d'hôtes" is specified, which may be usefull when there is no restaurant around, but the value for money is not always good and you will sometimes have to share the same table with other guests. It will be anyway the same menu for everyone.

Breaksfast and eventual diner are served in a shared dining room of the house.

A chambre d'hôtes includes bedroom and private bedroom. No livingroom and no private outside space. The equipments (spa, jacuzzi, garden furniture...) are shared with the other guests.

What is the difference between "chambre d'hôtes" and "gite", how to choose the best place ?

Holiday rental (gite):

The rental of a holiday let is normaly weekly, most of the time from Saturday to Saturday. This is the case at the Domaine de Monteils, but in the low season the arrival and departure days are free and we accept short stays from 2 nights.

There is usually no breakfast included in a holiday rental, as it's equiped with kitchen and any material for cooking and having lunch or diner just like at home. You feel free to go to the restaurants around or cook at home.

A gite provides more space, it's an entire apartment or house. It always has a private entrance and it's separate from the owner's house.

It often provides a private garden or terrace. Any equipments (jacuzzi, garden furniture...) are private for you.

This type of rental is usually the best for stays of 7 days or longer.

How to find the best holiday lettings or Bed and Breakfast in the Languedoc-Roussillon ?

Make your research and book the sooner as you can. Ideally before the end of January if your holiday is during the summer time. The later you do it the less avalabilities you will find. In Provence or in the Languedoc-Roussillon regions, all  nice places will be fully booked already from March or April.

If you look for the very best and the most charming holiday gites or B&B in the south of France, we recommand you make your booking a year in advance.

If your dates are flexible, check the rates to select the right period of holiday just before or just after the high season price.

Most areas in the south of France are really worth a stay in the mid season or in the low season rather than the summer time: The weather is nice (best in April, May, September and October), and you will experience a great stay at a lower price.

To make sure the photos on a website show the reality, or if you have a doubt, do not hesitate to ask the owner when they were taken.

Think of what you can't see on the photos, and ask questions : Is it quiet enough (proximity of any street...)? Are the place and the rooms sunny enough? Are the owners living there? Is there any air conditionned (especially if the building is recent) ? How far are the next shops and restaurants?
